EC Office of Traffic Safety Receives $18,685 Grant for Public Education on Traffic Safety Issues

ERIE COUNTY, NY—Today, the Erie County Office of Traffic Safety announced that it has been awarded a grant for $18,685 to participate in the New York State Highway Safety Program, a public education initiative working to reduce the number of crashes, injuries, and deaths on New York’s roads. Provided by the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee in alliance with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the grant will fund approximately 590 hours of Traffic Safety classes led by a part-time Traffic Safety Instructor.

“The Highway Safety Program works to build public awareness of traffic safety rules and instills in motorists the importance of following those rules,” said Erie County Commissioner of Central Police Services John Glascott. “This grant will further those goals by helping us to reach more motorists and thus help to keep our roads safer.”

Although the grant is not related to alcohol- or DWI-related driving issues, it will be overseen by the Erie County STOP-DWI Office. The grant-funded Instructor will schedule and lead non-alcohol related traffic safety education classes in area high schools and other community venues.
