Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz was joined by Lt. Commander George Boller III, U.S. Navy (Retired) and William Callahan, U.S. Navy (Retired), the Public Affairs Officer for the WNY Armed Forces Committee, in order to affix his signature to a proclamation being prepared in advance of Armed Forces Week and honoring all United States veterans. WNY Armed Forces Days will be celebrated from Sunday May 5 – Saturday May 18, 2019, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the American Legion and giving special recognition to the Operation Wounded Warriors project. Armed Forces Days will commence with an Opening Ceremony on Sunday May 5 at Buffalo RiverWorks, with music provided by the world-renowned Tonawanda American Legion Band. Color Guards will be present from all over Western New York, representing many military organizations and units. The 2019 tribute is provided by the men and women of the U.S. Navy and is in support of the Freedom Lounge, a non-profit organization that provides a comfort lounge at the Buffalo/Niagara Falls International Airport for traveling military personnel, their families and veterans. Events scheduled for Armed Forces Days include a military luncheon at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens on Thursday May 9 and a Military Ball at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens on Saturday May 18.
