ATTENTION MOTORISTS:  

March 28th: The REAL ID compliance date of October 1, 2020 has now been extended. In light of the COVID_19 Pandemic the Department of Homeland Security has granted an extension, the new compliance date is October 1, 2021.

EFFECTIVE March 21st: The Erie County Clerk's Office will be suspending DMV services at ALL offices. 

Once we feel it is safe to re-open and the health and welfare of our employees and customers is no longer at risk our on-line reservation system will be back in service. Thank you for your patience and understanding as well all work to eliminate the spread of COVID-19. 


EFFECTIVE March 18th: The Erie County Clerk's Office will be suspending DMV services at Eastern Hills Mall, Evans Town Hall & All Mobile Units

All remaining facilities will be subject to a limited closure through the end of the week. Only those Erie County residents with scheduled appointments or those with essential business will be permitted into our facilities. 

Essential business means the following services: commercial driver’s license testing; those who have to pay a civil fine to reinstate their license; a currently expired license; a license renewal approaching before the end of March; license plate surrenders; and, vehicle registrations, including renewals. This means, no learner’s permit testing. No reciprocity transactions. No duplicate titles. And please remember, only those conducting business will be permitted inside- including children.

Effective Friday March 20 at 5:00pm, all Erie County Auto Bureaus will suspend service in order to protect the public and ensure the greater good of the community. This temporary closure will remain in effect through March 31, 2020. 

At the Erie County Auto Bureau, our primary goal is to provide you, our customers, with the finest service possible.  In order for you to have the best experience at one of our Auto Bureaus, it is very important you are READY with all your documentation and forms before you come in. Please use the DMV Document guide to help you GET READY and to make a RESERVATION at one of our offices and to RENEW locally to keep your hard-working tax dollars in your WNY community.

For assistance, call our Automated Information Line (716) 858-7450. If you wish to speak to an NYS DMV Representative, press 8 and you will be connected to the NYS DMV Call Center. NYS DMV Representatives are available for general assistance on weekdays (See Holiday Hours) between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Eastern Time).

Keep your money in Erie County when you Renew Local! The Erie County Clerk's Office has made it easier and more convenient to do so by adding Self-Serve Kiosks, new locations, and implementing an online reservation system at the various Auto Bureaus.
