EC Senior Services’ Lifelong Learning Program Offers Free One-Hour Classes on Exciting Topics

ERIE COUNTY, NY— The Erie County Department of Senior Services’ Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (“RSVP”) has announced that the Spring 2016 University Express lifelong learning program is now accepting registrations from seniors interested in taking one or more of the exciting classes being offered. The University Express program is a collaboration of the Erie County Department of Senior Services, Wegmans, Excelsior Orthopaedics, and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York and offers free, one-hour classes on over 60 different topics including current events, health, science, the arts, history, and more.

Classes are specially designed for older adult learners and are held from late April – July at sites including the Amherst Senior Center, Baptist Manor, Canterbury Woods, Cheektowaga Senior Center, Clarence Senior Center, Grand Island Golden Age Center, Hamburg Senior Community Center, Orchard Park Senior Center, the Springville-Concord Elder Network (Concord Town Hall), and Wegmans’ Sheridan Drive location. Among the roster of instructors for classes are retired U.S. Congressman John LaFalce, National Weather Service Senior Forecaster Jon Hitchcock, retired FBI Special Agent Mike Liwicki, retired NYS Supreme Court Appellate Justice Salvatore Martoche, veteran local newscasters Rich Kellman and Rich Newberg, surgeons from Excelsior Orthopaedics, and many others. Healthy cooking classes will be held at the Wegmans Sheridan Drive location.
