The Erie County Youth Bureau, a division of the Erie County Department of Social Services, will host its 5th Annual Primetime Picnic on Thursday, August 1st from 10:00am-3:00pm at the Jewish Community Center’s Camp Centerland, 2640 North Forest Road, Getzville, NY 14068. This event allows approximately 400 children and program staff to celebrate summer and to participate in educational and recreational opportunities in a safe and fun environment. Students in programs throughout Erie County receiving funds through Summer Primetime will attend.
Vendors will attend the event and will host mini workshops focusing on fitness and well-being, social-emotional wellness, and activities designed to enhance and promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) learning. Children will be able to take advantage of the existing ropes courses located at Camp Centerland. They will also enjoy a summer picnic with kosher food products.
Each summer, about 60 not-for-profit agencies serving youth, as well as municipal youth bureaus across Erie County, receive Summer Primetime funding administered by the Erie County Youth Bureau. The programming administered through this funding stream is designed to provide a safe and caring environment for youth, to prevent summer learning loss, and to encourage children to stay healthy and active while school is out.
“Children in summer learning programs get to enjoy fun educational experiences and activities in the months when school is out,” said Talisa King, Youth Planning Services Coordinator with the Erie County Youth Bureau. “The Summer Primetime Picnic is a great way for children from all over the city and county to come together to explore opportunities in a new environment. Learning never stops for these children.”
