Detailed information on nursing home facilities in Erie County, including their rankings, is now just a click away with the debut of the “Safer Senior Homes” website. The new site is featured prominently on the county’s main web page as well as on the Senior Services page. Constructed in-house by the county’s Division of Information Support Services, the new website was brought into being through an Executive Order issued by Erie County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz last week.
“This new website is a significant tool that seniors and their caregivers can use to help in making decisions regarding long-term care and which nursing home facilities are best for them,” said Poloncarz. “I would like to thank the Department of Information Support Services and especially Jennifer Jowsey for the considerable amount of work that went into creating this site, which will be a tremendous aid to families across Erie County. Vital information on every nursing home in Erie County is now at their fingertips and easier to access than ever.”
The new website provides a searchable listing of all nursing homes in Erie County. Once a facility is clicked on, all past infraction information from the home is viewable along with the rankling assigned to the facility by the NYS Department of Health. The Safer Senior Homes website is one part of a package of protections proposed by the County Executive last week that are designed to better protect seniors in nursing homes following a fatal attack on such a resident last year.
“Seniors and their families now have the information they need about nursing homes available to them when they want it, with answers to their questions and a better understanding of these facilities before they ever step foot in the door,” said Commissioner of Senior Services Timothy Hogues. “In Erie County we are working to protect our seniors and ensure that they have the information that is critical to their long-term care needs.”
