Opposing the Trump Administration’s Elimination of Funding and Protection for The Great Lakes

Erie County, New York- Legislator Patrick Burke who garnered national recognition for his ban on microbead plastics, has submitted a resolution expressing his opposition to the Trump Administration’s proposed elimination of the Clean Water Rule, as well as the stark reductions in Environmental Protection Agency funding that would cut funds for the Great Lakes pollution cleanup by 97%. 

Legislator Burke Introduces Legislation to Prevent Illegal Tattooing

Erie County, New York- A local law titled “Preventing Underground Tattoo Parlors” will be submitted to the Erie County Legislature by Legislator Patrick Burke (7th District). Under the current sanitary code, Erie County health inspectors have limited capabilities in preventing unlicensed persons from administering tattoos. Legislator Burke’s new law would change the penalty for those administering tattoos illegally from an unenforceable code violation to a misdemeanor crime punishable by a $500 fine and/or one month in prison.

Legislator Burke Introduces School Bus Safety Legislation

ERIE COUNTY, NY- Today Erie County Legislator Patrick B. Burke (D-7th District) introduced the Erie County School Bus Safety Law. The law is intended to bridge the caregiver gap found on k-8 school buses. Over the past year, there have been several instances of school bus assault and school bus injuries due to a lack of oversight. There is no other place where children are void of supervision like they are on school buses.
