Chairman Mills calls for internal review of Legislature spending

Erie County Legislature Chairman John Mills, with the support of the new Majority Caucus, has called for a review of the Legislature’s expenditures from the past five years to determine exactly how the Legislature has spent taxpayer dollars and identify necessary changes to improve productivity. In a letter sent to Comptroller Stefan Mychajliw, Chairman Mills requests an audit of the Legislature following the change in leadership and to provide a clear understanding of the state of the governing body.

“This five-year review will help the new majority identify ways to operate more efficiently.  By looking back and analyzing previous legislature expenditures, we can better recognize how to move forward and where to place our priorities. Through this review the Legislature will ensure that every taxpayer dollar is being utilized appropriately, which always remains our top priority,” said Chairman Mills.

The Majority Caucus, including Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo and Legislators Lynne Dixon, Kevin Hardwick, Ted Morton and Edward Rath, believes it is best to lead by example, and taking a hard look at its own operations is the first step in its promise to bring improved efficiency to Erie County.

Upon receiving the Comptroller's findings, the Majority Caucus will take any necessary corrective actions to ensure the Legislature is spending every penny appropriately and efficiently.
