Erie County Legislature takes action to protect Great Lakes funding

The Erie County Legislature unanimously approved a resolution that requests that federal funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative be maintained to insure that the progress already made to keep Lake Erie clean continues.

“Obviously the health of Lake Erie is incredibly important and vital to overall health of our community. This federal program is supported by every level of government and I am pleased to see a strong local effort to fight to protect the funding,” said Chairman John Mills. “The Erie County Legislature requests that this funding be protected as Congress works through and discusses the Executive budget proposal.”

The Legislature’s Majority Caucus recognizes the past and continued efforts of Congressman Chris Collins, Congressman Brian Higgins, Congressman Tom Reed and others who have been advocates for federal funding to protect our Great Lakes.

“The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is a program that we must fight to protect. We have seen the success it has had and we have all benefited from that success. I trust our local federal officials will continue to be strong advocates, having proven they recognize the important role that all the Great Lakes have in regions’ revitalization,” said Legislator Lynne Dixon.
