Hazardous Waste Drop-off Events May 9 & June 13

The Erie County Legislature's Majority Caucus - Chairman John Mills, Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo, Legislator Lynne Dixon, Legislator Kevin Hardwick, Legislator Ted Morton & Legislator Ed Rath - announces the dates for the 2015 Hazardous Waste Drop-off Events. Erie County residents are welcome to drop off accepted materials from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 9 at the ECC North Campus and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at the ECC South Campus.

The following household materials will be accepted:

  • Pesticides, Fertilizers, Pool and Household Chemicals/Cleaners (limit 2 gallons or 20 lbs.)
  • Oil-based Paints, Spray cans (limit 10 gallons)   
  • Paint Thinner, Stripper and Solvents (limit 2 gallons)
  • Batteries (lead acid & rechargeable)
  • Oil, Gasoline, Kerosene, Antifreeze (limit 10 gallons)
  • Mercury (thermometers, thermostats, metal)

Items which will not be accepted include: latex paint, automobile tires, computers & electronics, appliances, pharmaceuticals, fluorescent bulbs, commercial/industrial wastes.

Participants may need to verify that wastes are generated by households.

The May 9 drop off event at the ECC North Campus is being co-sponsored by the Town of Amherst.  The June 13 event at the ECC South Campus is co-sponsored by the Northeast Southtowns Solid Waste Management Board. Support for both events is provided by Erie Community College, Elwood Fire Protection, Inc., NOCO Energy Corp., The Battery Post, Inc., and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.
