Legislators plan Elder Abuse Outreaches to address threats to vulnerable residents

Members of the Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus have scheduled Elder Abuse Outreaches to address the various forms of abuse that threaten senior citizens on a daily basis, and to provide valuable assistance to seniors. In total, more than 1,500 cases of elder abuse are reported in Erie County each year and the Legislators are utilizing experts to address these concerns.

“This is a serious problem, one that seems to grow each year. I believe that a community-wide approach to curbing threats to seniors is extremely valuable. To help residents identify forms of abuse and protect themselves, my colleagues and I are partnering with various agencies to host Elder Abuse Seminars that will provide seniors with important information and the opportunity to discuss any issues they are having with an expert,” said Majority Leader Joseph Lorigo.

Legislators invite residents who wish to learn more about elder abuse to attend one of the following seminars that have been scheduled:

  • Legislator Ted Morton at the Cheektowaga Senior Center from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 16
  • Legislator Joseph Lorigo at the West Seneca Senior Center from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Sept. 23
  • Legislator Lynne Dixon at the Hamburg Senior Center from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24
  • Legislator Edward Rath at the Amherst Center for Senior Services from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26
  • Legislator John Mills at the Orchard Park Senior Center from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Sept. 29
