Legislature invests in county programs through Budget Balancing Amendment process

The Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus approved several expenditures at the May 12, 2016 session to designate funds and prioritize various programs that serve county residents. The resolution was approved 11-0 authorizing 2015 Year-End Budget Balancing Amendments. 

 

“The package approved today continues to invest in services that are important to residents while being mindful of the overall county budget. The allocations prioritize our students at Erie Community College, youth services, road and bridge repairs, the libraries and more,” said Chairman John Mills. “Today we supported the people’s mandates and we believe these investments will benefit Erie County.”

 

The Legislature’s approved expenditures include:

  • $5 million for road and bridge improvements, and equipment upgrades
  • $1 million for Erie Community College
  • $231,363 for Library books, materials and equipment
  • $80,000 for Operation Primetime - summer youth programming
  • $36, 000 for Seneca Bluffs land acquisition
  • $62,622 Fiber Optic Study
  • $220,000 for utility expense including Child Protection Cell Phones
  • $50,000 for Youth detention security upgrades
  • $16,5000 for Fish Advisory Board’s fishing and tourism map
  • $375,595 for Opioid Crisis Response Plan (previously approved)

 

The Majority Caucus also amended the proposal from the County Executive to reiterate its commitment to the opioid/heroin epidemic and lead housing issue. The Legislature unanimously approved separate proposals for the opioid hotline and lead poisoning prevention services at the April 14 and April 28 sessions, respectfully.
