Legislature re-elects John Mills as Chairman for 2017

The Erie County Legislature re-elected Legislator John Mills to serve as Chairman. The appointment was confirmed at the annual reorganizational meeting held Jan. 5, 2017 at the Legislative Chambers.

“I believe the work accomplished by this body during my tenure as Chairman speaks for itself and I am honored to once again hold the position. We will face many significant challenges this year and I trust the Legislature will once again work together on behalf of our constituents. We will continue to work with the County Executive when we find agreement, and we will continue to hold him accountable when it’s necessary,” said Chairman Mills.

Also during the annual Reorganizational Meeting the Republican-aligned Caucus, which includes Legislator Edward Rath (R-Amherst), Legislator Kevin Hardwick (R-Tonawanda), Legislator Ted Morton (R-Cheektowaga), Chairman Mills (R-Orchard Park) and Legislator Lynne Dixon (I-Hamburg),  re-elected Legislator Joseph Lorigo (C-West Seneca) as Majority Leader.

“As leader of the Majority Caucus I am focused on doing what is best for the taxpayers of Erie County.  The county’s financial stability is paramount, and 2017 may bring tough decisions. The Legislature, led by the Republican-aligned Caucus, will continue to fight for lower taxes, reduce spending and smarter government. I am grateful to my colleagues for their support, and know that we can work together to build on the successes we have accomplished over the past few years,” said Majority Leader Lorigo.
