Legislature recognizes ‘Sheriff’s Week’ in Erie County

At Thursday’s session, the Legislature passed a resolution to formally recognize September 16th–22nd as Sheriff’s Week in Erie County.

“We appreciate the hard-work of the men and women who work for the Erie County Sheriff’s office and their tireless efforts to serve and protect the residents of Erie County,” said Legislator Joe Lorigo. “A week of recognition is one small way for us to demonstrate how much we value their service to our community.”

“This week is to honor the sheriff’s office longstanding dedication to safeguarding our community,” said Legislator John Mills. “From providing security at numerous events to responding to all types of emergencies, these members of law enforcement play an invaluable role in protecting the citizens of Erie County.”

“The men and women employed by the sheriff’s office are some of the hardest-working individuals in Erie County,” said Legislator Lynne Dixon. “During this week, we express our appreciation for their bravery and professional commitment to keeping us safe.”

“The sheriff’s office does an outstanding job improving the criminal justice system in Erie County,” said Legislator Ed Rath. “Their work goes beyond traditional day-to-day responsibilities, from involvement with schools and children to using the latest state-of-the-art technology to serve and protect the public. We are thankful for their service not only during this week of recognition, but every day of the year.”

“On behalf of all the hard-working men and women of the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, I want to thank the legislators who signed the resolution for recognizing Sheriff’s Week,” said Sheriff Timothy Howard.  “The Deputies and Corrections Officers of this agency work hard each day to protect the people of Erie County and keep our community safe, and their recognition means a lot to this law enforcement agency.”
