Majority Caucus seeks local companies for County’s Summer Youth Employment Program

The Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus is seeking local businesses to partner with Erie County for the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), coordinated through the Department of Social Services.

“The teens who participate in Summer Youth Employment Program are in need of help and guidance, and by investing in them they learn to invest in themselves. The teen workers are paid through the county for their work and businesses are just asked to open their doors and involve these young people in their day-to-day operations,” said Chairman John Mills. “Local businesses can play a vital role in our community through the Summer Youth Employment Program and I hope many will consider being a partner.”

The SYEP community agency connects the youth with worksite providers. SYEP is a six-to-eight-week program operating in July and August, serving youth between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age. This program is at no cost to businesses, which are only asked to provide supervision and job assignments.
