Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo (C-West Seneca) announced today after a thorough interview process with several candidates, the Minority Caucus of the Erie County Legislature has hired Katarina Schmieder, formerly of WIVB-TV, to lead their communications operation.
“After going through the interview process with several qualified candidates, Katarina quickly rose to the top as someone that understands new media and how to communicate with residents in this new era of how people obtain their news. She is going to do a great job communicating the message of our caucus and we’re happy to have her on board,” stated Legislator Lorigo.
"I am honored to be working with this great group of legislators and proud of the relationships I've cultivated in the community during my time spent in local news. My door is always open and phone is always on for reporters and members of the media who want to connect with the Legislature's Minority Caucus,” stated Schmieder.
Schmieder previously worked three years as an assignment editor at WIVB-TV. Before that, she spent time at both Spectrum News and WKBW-TV. She has a degree in communications from Medaille College.
