Erie County requests Thruway Authority release records concerning emergency response to the November ’14 storm

The Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus is requesting that Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Thruway Authority release the state records regarding the 2014 November storm, coined “Winter Storm Knife,” that buried portions of Erie County in nearly 7 feet of snow. The impact of this storm was tragic, costing millions of dollars, damaging property and taking the lives of residents. Not only were residents buried in their homes, many were stranded on roadways, including the New York State Thruway, for 36 hours.

Legislator Dixon honors 76th St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon presented a proclamation to Jennifer Letina, the 2016 St. Patrick’s Day Parade Grand Marshal, at the March 17, 2016 session in recognition of her efforts with the United Irish American Association to celebrate Irish culture. This year marks the 76th parade, which has grown into one of the largest in the country.

Legislator Dixon, Urban Valet Kick-Off 7th annual Prom Dress Drive

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon and Urban Valet Dry Cleaner’s President Eric Pyne held a press conference Tuesday, March 1 to announce the kick-off of the 7th annual Prom Dress Drive and to encourage the community to donate gowns and dresses. The press event, held at the Hamburg Public Library, discussed the importance of this drive and how it has made a difference in thousands of girls’ lives over the years.

We know that our young people are facing problems that generations before them did not experience. Heroin and synthetic marijuana, among other substances, are in our schools and in our communities, threatening their lives daily. In addition, our kids are forced to deal with cyberbullying and some of our young people are being tormented daily. These many challenges require us to look at new and different ways to help our young citizens.

Erie County Legislature requests more State aid for schools

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon is pleased that the Legislature unanimously approved a resolution she cosponsored at the Feb. 18 session, calling on New York State to repeal the Gap Elimination Adjustment Law. The law, which reduces the amount of state aid received by school districts, was first imposed in the 2010 to help close New York State’s multi-billion dollar deficit by taking funding away from schools.
