December 2014 Column - County budget includes tax rate decrease, funding for local program

I am happy to close out my first year in the Legislature with some great news: the Erie County Legislature has adopted the 2015 budget with a tax decrease. After reviewing the County’s Executive’s proposed $1.4 billion budget, which only held the line on taxes, we identified spending cuts and delivered a long overdue tax rate decrease.

Legislator Morton announces funding for Plymouth Crossroads

Erie County Legislator Ted Morton is pleased to announce that the Legislature has supported his request for funding for Plymouth Crossroads, located in Lancaster, in the 2015 Erie County budget. The Legislature approved $10,000 at today’s annual Budget Meeting to support Plymouth Crossroads’ efforts to help at-risk youths succeed by providing a safe place to live. 

Legislature’s Majority Caucus cuts spending, delivers tax decrease in 2015

The Erie County Legislature’s Majority Caucus has revised County Executive Mark Poloncarz’s proposed 2015 budget that only held the line on taxes and approved a budget that decreases taxes. The Majority Caucus’s cuts to the budget provided much needed tax relief for residents in 2015.

Leading by example, Legislature reduces own budget for 2015

At today’s Annual Budget Meeting the Erie County Legislature Majority Caucus voted to reduce its own budget by nearly $100,000. The reduction was achieved by eliminating a position, slashing the office supply budget line and reducing its rental costs, among other cuts.

Erie County Legislator Ted Morton, with the support of community partners, announces a Food Drive to benefit the Alden-Marilla Community Food Pantry and Tri-Community Food Pantry. Non-perishable goods will be collected from Monday, Nov. 17 through Monday, Dec. 15.

Legislator Morton appointed to Legislature’s Budget Committee

Erie County Legislator Ted Morton has been appointed to the Erie County Legislature’s Budget Committee, which oversees Legislative hearings and discussions pertaining to the proposed 2015 budget. As a member of the committee, Legislator Morton will vote on any amendments to the budget before a package is sent to the full Legislature for consideration.

Legislator Morton asks for investigation into why county gas prices are slow to drop

Erie County Legislator Ted Morton sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Schneiderman requesting that he fully investigate the reason(s) why gas prices in Erie County drop at a far slower rate than across New York State and the United States. As a result of the investigation, Legislator Morton wants to see corrective action taken and county residents provided relief at the gas pump in a timely manner.

October 2014 Column -- Plan to raise elected officials salaries not supported

Last week the Citizens Salary Review Commission released its report, calling for salary increases for the county executive, comptroller, sheriff and clerk. It was the first report since 2004 and analyzed the fact that elected officials’ salaries hadn’t been raised since 1996.
