OFFICE HIGHLIGHTS

January 2014 Column - Infrastructure maintenance, business forums priorities in 2014

As the Legislature begins a new term, I am honored to be part of the majority caucus, led by the Republican Party for the first time in more than 35 years. I believe this transition comes at a critical time. This changeover will end one party rule in Erie County. The Legislature will no longer be acting as a rubberstamp for County Executive Mark Poloncarz, but instead, collaborating to best serve all taxpayers.

December 2013 Column - Deferring pension obligation not in the best interest of taxpayers

Pension costs are a massive expense for municipalities that continues to rise every year. Next year Erie County’s pension obligation totals $40 million, and although it is a significant cost, we have a responsibility to pay this bill.

Legislator Rath to host fundraiser for Clarence Library

Erie County Legislator Edward Rath will host a Hot Dog Roast Fundraiser to benefit the Clarence Library from noon to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at the library, 3 Town Place, Clarence. The event is being held during Fire Safety Day, presented by the Clarence Center Volunteer Fire Company.

October 2013 Column - Support More Caseworkers Instead Of More Management

Over the past few years, the Erie County Department of Social Services has failed to protect some of our most vulnerable children. Three tragedies have taken place that should have been prevented; and three young children have been lost due to failures that must be corrected immediately.
