Erie County Legislator Chris Greene recently honored Amherst Meals on Wheels for its continued contributions to the community and presented Executive Director Richard A. Ellis with a proclamation.
Amherst Meals on Wheels first began delivering hot and cold meals daily since 1975. The service is for homebound residents who are unable to prepare food for themselves. The program not only provides nutritious meals, but also a deep concern and commitment by volunteers for the people who rely on them.
Fifty-eight percent of home-delivered meal recipients live alone, and for many of them, the Meals on Wheels volunteer delivering their meals may be the only person they see all day—reinforcing how critical the program is to the welfare of the recipient.
Legislator Greene said, “I want to thank the volunteers, staff and Executive Director Richard A. Ellis over at the Amherst Meals on Wheels program who have dedicated so much time and effort in helping our elderly neighbors over the last 46 years. The work you do on a day-to-day basis does not go unrecognized.”
