Erie County Legislator Joe Lorigo sent a letter to the County Budget Office requesting a report on possible ways the County can fund a body camera program.
Erie County Sheriff Tim Howard has appeared before the Legislature’s Public Safety Committee on several occasions and indicated a willingness to implement body cameras if funding is available.
Legislator Lorigo said, “We’ve had many discussions at the Legislature on the possibility of implementing body cameras. Instead of continuing to hold discussions and pointing fingers, we need to work with the Sheriff to find funding for them. In many cases, the Administration will request funding for various projects and programs, and the Budget Office manages to find the money. I look forward to receiving a response and working together to solve this issue.”
