Erie County Legislator John Mills attended the 2019 Erie County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services Wall of Honor Induction Ceremony recognizing volunteer firefighters for their bravery. At the ceremony, Legislator Mills presented a proclamation honoring the late Peter J. Loretto, which was accepted by Peter’s wife, Sharon.
Peter J. Loretto joined the Langford New -Oregon Fire Department in October 1968 and served many roles including Chief, 1st Assistant Chief, and 2nd Assistant Chief. He also helped establish the Helmuth Fire Control Dispatch Center where he worked as a dispatcher.
Legislator Mills said, “This event was an incredible tribute to some of the bravest individuals among our community. We greatly value the selfless service of all who volunteer as first responders, including Mr. Loretto. It was my pleasure to attend an event honoring each of these men and women.”
This year’s other inductees are Michelle Bliss of the South Line Volunteer Fire Company, Eugene Beszczynski of the Sloan Active Hose Company, Robert Carncross of the Ellwood Volunteer Fire Company, Arthur Domino of the Depew Fire Department, George J. Karl Jr. of the Main Transit Fire Department, , James Nusall of the Depew Fire Department, and Edward Tokasz of the Doyle Volunteer Hose Company #2.
