Erie County Legislator Ed Rath collected valentines made by students at a number of local schools and delivered each handmade card to the VA of Western New York last Friday.
Legislator Rath said, “It was a pleasure to once again participate in this annual program. I would like to thank each of the thoughtful students who made cards for us to hand out to the men and women who served our country. The valentines put smiles on so many faces at the VA. While we were there, I had the opportunity to chat with Sydney Cole, a 105-year old World War II veteran with an incredible personality. It was a great to show our heroes how much we appreciate their sacrifice!”
The following schools in Legislator Rath’s district participated:
- Clarence Center Elementary School
- Nativity of Mary School
- St. Gregory the Great School
- Christ the King School
- St. Benedict's School
- Maple East Elementary School
- Harris Hill Elementary School
Valentines were also delivered to the men and women at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve station.
Master Sgt. Kevin Nichols said, “We would like to thank the school children of Erie County and the Legislature that participated in this year’s Valentine’s for Vets program. Your heartfelt thoughts and comments to our members are very much appreciated by the men and women of the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.”
