The County Clerk's Office is responsible for recording, filing and maintaining a central repository of legal documents and records affecting property titles (including land and real estate transactions-deeds and mortgages), those related to corporate filings, assumed names, and, as Clerk of the Supreme Court and County Courts, all court pleadings and papers.

The County Clerk's Office also operates the Pistol Permit Department as well as accepts Passport applications for United States citizens applying for a U.S. Passport for the first time.

In addition, the local Auto Bureau is managed and staffed by personnel of the County Clerk's Office. The Clerk oversees the operations of two Auto Bureau branches, four satellite offices and one Mobile unit serving four locations on a weekly schedule. The Auto Bureau offers a full range of services related to motor vehicles and licenses as an agent for the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.
