Erie County Legislator Chris Greene recently announced a public hearing will be held in regards to a local law authorizing 12 and 13-year-old licensed hunters to hunt deer with a firearm or crossbow under the supervision of a licensed and experienced adult. Currently, 12 and 13-year-olds are able to only hunt deer with a bow or small game with firearms.

Legislator Greene said, “I look forward to discussing this local law with the public to see what their opinions are on the matter. For me, passing this law is a no-brainer because it will take young children and turn them into responsible and vigilant hunters and, ultimately, it will lead to safer woods for all. I urge all hunters to attend this meeting and share your stories from experience with the Legislature.”

The public hearing is scheduled for August 5, 2021 at 6:00p.m. on the 4th floor of 92 Franklin Street.

A copy of the local law can be found here.
