NEW PISTOL PERMIT SATELLITE OFFICE OPENS IN TOWN OF ELMA

Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns joined by Town of Elma Supervisor Dennis Powers, NYS Senator Patrick Gallivan, Legislator Joe Lorigo and members of the Elma Town Board cut the ribbon to officially open the new Erie County Pistol Department Satellite Office. Located at Elma Town Hall, 1600 Bowen Rd. Elma, NY 14059, the satellite office will be open weekly on Fridays from 10:00 am - 3:30 pm, and will process specific transactions, including add/ remove a gun, change of address and help with general pistol permit questions. Fees will be payable by credit card, check or money order only.  

“Our downtown Pistol Permit Department receives a significant amount of traffic on a day to day basis. It is clear the necessity to open pistol permit satellite offices at various locations throughout Erie County, both for convenience and better service,” said Clerk Mickey Kearns. “I want to thank Town of Elma supervisor Dennis Powers and the town board for their eagerness and cooperation in establishing this satellite office. Opening this office will help expedite transactions for our pistol permit holders and increase accessibility of pistol department services.”   

“The Town of Elma is ecstatic regarding the pistol permit satellite office opening up in Elma at the Elma Town Hall. I have to thank Erie County Clerk, Mickey Kearns for having the confidence in me, and the Honorable Judge William Boller for making this happen. This is yet another example of shared services with the County,” said Elma Supervisor Dennis Powers.

“This satellite office will make it more convenient for pistol permit holders to update information and make other necessary transactions.  I thank County Clerk Kearns and Supervisor Powers for working together to make this office a reality for residents,” said Senator Patrick M. Gallivan.

““I’d like to thank County Clerk Kearns for extending these services to Elma,” said Legislator Joe Lorigo. “By opening a satellite office, pistol permit holders in my district will have much easier access to complete transactions and it will save them a trip downtown. I understand permit holders’ many frustrations with new state requirements, so I am happy our local government is taking steps to ease the burden on them.”

New York State Supreme Court Justice and town of Elma resident, the Hon. M. William Boller made the first ‘honorary’ transaction to officially open the satellite office.

“It is an honor for me to be the Erie County Pistol Permit Judge since July 2006,” said Judge William Boller. “Having an office of the Erie County Pistol Permit Department at the Elma Town Hall will save many people the trouble of driving downtown, paying for a parking spot and going through security at the County Courthouse. Now it will be just a quick drive to the Elma Town Hall on a Friday where there is plenty of free parking. This is a great example of local governments working together for the benefit of its citizens!”

The Elma office will be the first satellite office to open since the Cheektowaga satellite office closed in August of last year due to staffing issues. Clerk Kearns is working to reopen the Cheektowaga satellite office later this year.
