County Clerk wants Auto Bureau staff to have all available personal protective equipment while working

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns is pleased to announce that he is outfitting every employee of the Erie County Auto Bureau with personal safety shields to wear while at work to provide enhanced protection against the transmission of COVID-19. 

“From the start of this pandemic my priority was to make sure that we are doing everything we can to provide a safe and healthy work environment to the Auto Bureau staff while they continue to serve the public,” stated Kearns. “Anytime we have an opportunity to protect the health and welfare of our staff and customers, we will implement those practices.” 

This type of personal protective equipment (PPE) is not mandatory. It serves as an additional layer of protection to the glass partitions installed at every service window throughout every branch and the mandated cloth face masks previously provided to all staff at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Kearns added, “I commend our staff for being on the frontlines in order to meet the needs of the thousands of motorists across Erie County. When they come to work every day they should come in knowing that we will do our best to protect their health.”   

County Clerk Kearns was able to obtain over 100 personal safety shields through the County’s Purchasing Department after making the request. 

In order to meet the necessary COVID-19 spread prevention guidelines set forth by the New York State Department of Health and the Center for Disease Control (CDC), all Auto Bureau locations require all customers conducting an in-person transaction to schedule an on-line reservation at www.erie.gov/clerk/autobureau, wear a face covering properly during the entire visit, utilize hand sanitizer stations and maintain social distancing protocols. 

The Erie County Auto Bureau conducts as many as 2,000 in-person transactions per day since they re-opened to the public in June of 2020.
