Apply in person at any Erie County Auto Bureau, by mail or online
Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns reminds residents of the fast-approaching voter registration deadline to vote in this November’s general election. Voters must be registered by October 8, 2021 to vote in the upcoming election, to be held on November 2nd.
Eligible voters can apply in-person at any Erie County Auto Bureau when they complete a driver license, learner permit, or non-driver ID transaction. Reservations are required for all in-person transactions and can be made online at erie.gov/clerk/autobureau or by calling the Reservation Hotline at 716-858-8864.
Those who already have a license, permit or non-driver ID and need to register or update the information they have on file with the Board of Elections can do so by mail. Voter Registration forms can be obtained at any Erie County Auto Bureau or the County Clerk’s Office located in Old County Hall at 92 Franklin Street, downtown Buffalo.
Mail-in applications must be post-marked no later than October 8th and received by the Erie County Board of Elections no later than October 13, 2021, or hand delivered to the Board of Elections by October 8th to be eligible to vote in the general election.
“The Erie County Auto Bureau is pleased to offer county residents a variety of options in order to become a registered voter,” said County Clerk Michael P. Kearns. “The Erie County Clerk’s Office is where people come to get their business done, including voter registration.”
Residents can also register in person at the Erie County Board of Elections, located at 134 West Eagle Street, Buffalo, NY 14202, or online at elections.erie.gov by clicking “Register to Vote”. Those who were honorably discharged from the US Military, or have become a naturalized US citizen, after October 8, 2021 may register in person at the Board of Elections up until October 23, 2021.
The Erie County Auto Bureau and the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) sends the completed voter registration applications to the County Board of Elections for review and action. Once processed, the County Board of Elections will notify the applicants either that they are registered to vote or whether additional information is needed to complete the application.
