Clerk Works with Elma Officials to Offer Convenient Option to Customers

Erie County, NY- Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns, along with Elma Town Supervisor Wayne Clark, held a ribbon-cutting announcing the Grand Re-opening of the Erie County Pistol Department. The satellite office located inside Elma Town Hall at 1600 Bowen Road is now open Wednesdays from 9:00AM- 1:00PM and 2:00PM- 5:00PM.

At this time, only pistol permit holders that have plastic permit cards will be able to take advantage of the following services: add/remove firearms, update personal information, pick up new or upgrade applications, and assistance with general pistol permit questions. No cash, checks or money orders will be accepted. Fees will be payable by credit card only.

The re-opening of the pistol permit satellite office comes after being closed the past two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “Our pistol satellite office in Elma was extremely popular prior to us suspending services due to the coronvirus, said Erie County Clerk Mickey Kearns. “Now that the pandemic seems to be in the rearview mirror, common sense dictates that we get back to providing services that are convenient and increase accessibility for our customers.”

Long time Elma Councilman Tracy Petrocy added, "This is great news for the Elma residents and the first strong signal the town is getting back to some sort of normal since the pandemic started. My appreciation goes out to Mickey Kearns and his office."

Those interested in applying for a pistol permit or moving from a paper permit to a plastic card permit must do so at the Pistol Permit office located in Old County Hall, 92 Franklin Street, Buffalo. Please note the office is still accepting transactions, with proper payment, by mail.

“Driving downtown is not easy or the most convenient location for many, and securing parking can be difficult on any given day. Many of our customers tell us they are paying more in parking fees than to amend their pistol permits and spend more time trying to find a parking spot than at the pistol permit office," stated Kearns.
