The 2017 Erie County Rain Barrel Painting Contest is in full swing!

Open to schools and student-based community groups in Erie and Niagara counties, this painting contest is held annually in honor of Earth Day.  The theme this year is “Harvest a Resource, Recycle the Rain!”.

For additional contest information, please visit http://www.erie.gov/rainbarrelcontest

The first finished design was recently submitted by Mrs. Michele O’Conner and her art students at Niagara Falls High School.

This creative design recognizes Niagara Falls as a major water resource, incorporates the world-renowned landscape of the area, and represents the unique architecture of the school building.  The Niagara Falls High School mascot, the Wolverine, helped with the painting and is shown taking a trip over the falls in a barrel.
