Several years ago the County took over the sanitary sewer systems of other municipalities to effectuate more efficient service that is better protective of public health and the environment. The second phase of the Rush Creek Interceptor project commenced this summer is a direct result of this effort. The project will eliminate three (3) existing overflows that the County took over from other municipalities in the 2000’s, eliminate aging facilities that would require future upgrades, eliminate electrical loads that will in turn reduce the carbon footprint of providing sewer services in the corridor, and eliminate duplication of services. Elimination of the overflows will reduce bacteria contamination at nearby Woodlawn Beach.
